In October 2020, a meme was created, following the usage of this song, covered by a turkish man named Bilal Göregen. Many mistake the title for Levan Polkka, thinking the capital "i" is a lowercase "l". Since then the song has been covered countless more times by other Vocaloids numerous versions exist, including solos, duets and even a quartet mimicking the original. Riding on the popularity of the meme, Hatsune Miku's cover of "Ievan Polkka" became her first popular work. The video is a reference to a then-popular internet meme called "Leekspin", which features an animation of Orihime Inoue from the Japanese manga Bleach twirling a negi (misidentified as a leek) to an infinite loop of the 5th stanza of "Ievan Polkka". In the video, she waves a negi (also called a Welsh onion or spring onion) in time to the music, establishing the negi as Miku's signature item. The accompanying video to Miku's cover of "Ievan Polkka" features Hachune Miku (はちゅねミク), a blank-eyed doll-like chibi version of Miku. After falling from popularity it was revived by Finnish band Loituma in the 1990's, and in 2007 a cover by Otomania was released, voiced by Hatsune Miku and accompanied by a video illustrated by Tamago.
